Sanford Kahn, LLP was established in 1973 and consists of seven attorneys, all of whom concentrate on landlord-tenant law. Our firm represents numerous property management companies, housing cooperatives, not-for-profit organizations, and individual landlords in all aspects of landlord-tenant litigation, including evictions, class action defense, trials, and appeals.

Additionally, our firm serves as corporate counsel for several housing cooperatives in Cook and Lake counties in Illinois, and we defend landlords and property owners in front of city, county, state, and federal administrative agencies, including the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Chicago Commission on Human Relations, and at Chicago Building Code Administrative Hearings.

Our firm files nearly 5,000 eviction cases every year concerning residential, subsidized, commercial, and industrial properties, and we represent clients in the Illinois counties of Cook, Lake, DuPage, McHenry, Kane, Kendall, Grundy, Will, and Kankakee. We can also efficiently represent clients in Indiana.

Our attorneys have lectured and written extensively on the subject of legal problems confronting landlords and property managers, our attorneys regularly review and revise leases, and our attorneys are regularly consulted by major trade associations and organizations for input on pending legislation, court rules and procedure changes, best practices, and representation. The members of our firm also periodically present to property management companies and trade associations on various issues concerning landlord-tenant law and procedure.

The attorneys at Sanford Kahn, LLP have extensive knowledge regarding the Chicago Residential Landlord and Tenant Ordinance and have successfully defended numerous lawsuits arising out of the ordinance, including class actions and cases involving security deposits, unlawful entries, owner/agent disclosures, habitability, RLTO summaries, and alleged wrongful evictions.

Additionally, our firm has extensive knowledge of the federal rules and regulations as they relate to subsidized housing, and we have successfully handled numerous cases before the Illinois Appellate Court and Illinois Supreme Court.
